Many of the above mixes have been sold by unethical breeders as full Utonagan, which of course they ARE NOT. This could seriously damage our breed and the natural character of the dogs. All such pups should be sold as what they are, crosses of whichever breeds are incorporated in them and sold for much less than the full price for a genuine bona fide Utonagan dog.
With DNA profiling, we can match them to the Utonagan we have already DNA profiled to see if they do actually have any Utonagan in them but they will still only be eligible to be registered as Pre-Utonagans.
Any of these dogs as stated above, MAY be considered for use in our breeding programme to enhance the gene pool a little, without upsetting the balance of the temperament and general traits of the Utonagan too much.
We welcome owners of ALL of the above named breeds and Pre-Ute’s so that we can all work together to gain valuable insight into health issues relating to our own dogs and also learn more about the temperament traits in each breed. By taking all these things into account, and knowing the precise background of our own dogs, we aim to enhance the health of the Utonagan breed in general.
We will of course continue to breed full Utonagan to full Utonagan where the relationships are NOT too close to one another.
